This week has been a real adjustment for me, from having tons of free time to having no free time; it's an adjustment that is hard to make. Odd also is going from a mental power moving busines to a physical moving business, trust me, that adjustment has been eye opening all over the place. Ever been through something like that?

Eventually the fad pusher admits it, yes their diet is the one you need to buy into, and yes they know you have heard stuff like it before, but still, you need to listen to their pitch, buy their tape, and purchase their book. It’s burning itself out, this internal anti-fat market- where fad publications and “buzz” marketing have sent many ladies close to the edge, and many more to the stationary bikes!

What experience has taught me is that sound eating is hard to do in today’s culture, because everyone is always on the go, we don’t do meals around the family table every evening much anymore. World wide the development and consumption of fast food is still one of the most pronounced growth markets, trends and stocks. So we can come to grips with a reality factor here, diets are going to be around for a while. Darn it.

So we come to the practicality factor, that is we will diet for a while, but at some point the diet breaks down. Diet counselors talk about the “gonna eat” attitude that comes out of the persons not eating foods they love. This creates numerous problems for them, as they eat what they aren’t supposed to be eating in amounts that are too high. There is an answer, and it’s a sweet one (no pun intended) that from experience, works.

One – Fruit – oh it’s true, it’s not sexy, but it is – good. If you haven’t tried it in a while, let me suggest something that you might find weird, but it works – grapes that are frozen. Yes it sounds horrid, but you’d be surprised how good this is. Apples that are quartered and then use peanut butter on crackers (no fat crackers) as a side palette enhancer, it’s a sweet snack that has loads of energy.

Two - Breyers Double Churned No Fat Ice Cream. You may not have this brand name in your stores, so, look for double churned and No Fat; something about the texture of the double churned is actually softer and seems sweeter, even though we know it isn’t.

Three- Crunch factor foods that are diet rated. Used to be able to say “Crunchy Granola” but many diet counselors have said that Granola often contains as many calories as other crunchy foods so it isn’t necessarily any aid to the dieter. It does seem to me, and you might try this, that some granola in the afternoon staves off hunger? When combined with a nice low fat tea, like a “Green Tea,” or “Chai Tea” this snack is a hunger buster that works all the time.

So when you combine these suggestions it is true they aren’t barn burners, but here is the real deal – where many times a diet will get blown away on a Friday evening binge, or a Saturday weakness, leading to a binge, these foods can help. What would happen if the next time you were really thinking of eating away at it, you ate one of these instead, the difference might be very helpful to you. Hang in there – it’s worth it!

The false accusation is not becoming a test of the legal system, legal ethics and other matters legal in the U.S. Folks we have one of the sterling justice systems in the world, we are presumed innocent until proven guilty...but this case brings out other uncomfortable items that we don't like to think about- and makes me thankful that somebody doesn't have it "in" for me- what are your thoughts on this matter?

Recently we've moved Morningside into a more directed channel - reaching more folks, but doing so in a more controlled and focused way. We hope to expand that base and eventually reach many people with what we believe are both comforting and challenging devotional thoughts. Devotionals are time with God, that's what they are all about, you and God, together, personal, and timely. Writing devotionals is the most wonderful writing experience that a person can have, but they have to love God and they ought to love the readers, God's people. Also when putting a devotional together it strikes me that it ought to be so clear that a person who doesn't know Jesus Christ as their lord and savior would get the message, each time, if we intend to ever win anyone we must make it appealing enough to them, wouldn't you agree? Which brings us to our blog question: Shouldn't Christianity be appealing?

Sometimes it just doesn't seem fair does it? I remember a speeding ticket some years back, after I got it, and was out of the cops sight, the pedal went down again, why? Cause I figured I paid for that section of the highway, I ought to be able to use it some! On the other hand, one time an officer of the law pulled me over for going 60 in a fifty five...he said, "Tell you what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna give you a break this time...just slow it down, OK?" For at least the next six months, on that road, I lightened up on the gas pedal. What's the point- maybe it's something to do with ...grace? Today I still remember that, and slow down as a result of it. One was the law, and it was paid it's due- the law is the law, it is necessary for survival, for relevance in a society, and to maintain order. The other is grace, it isn't necessary at all, but it sure has an impact, wouldn't you say?

Man alive, it's been weeks and weeks since I've had a minute to check here, have to get here more often. This week has been tied into the four sermon week, plus a paper on "Mere Christianity", which has proved to be a really deep read, for the third of fourth time. The world is frying, right before our eyes, Israel and the Hezbollah are not going to get peaceful, apparently; which means that Isaiah chapter two is even more intensely to be studied. Beyond this, my flock continues to hang together as a core group. One of these days I know they are going to get it, they are goint to reach out, they are going to grow, I can just feel it in my bones, sense it in my prayers, and feel the love comin' to the surface. Well my friend who likes little green footballs has quit contributing much and just reads the news? Are we, do you think, possibly looking at a cyclic adventure? I know that my daughter blogs at facebook like mad, so, don't know if the thing is the place of origin, the way we blog, or, the source, there is one called myspace that is pretty popular also. I wonder if it is cyclic in terms of contributing, because to enter comments does take time? What do you think?

Just as we watch people grow from children into teens, and teens into adults, so it is that everything, has a cyclic growth to it. What this implies in the strongest possible way, is that observing growth is observing a force at work that we can observe, even manipulate in some instances, but we cannot control. We didn't make this force, we don't make growth, it occurs until the organism ceases to grow and metamorphoses into something different. That we believe that this must inherently tell of the creator makes sense, great scientific minds have always proclaimed such, and it is mere observation that allows an individual to see this. What is interesting is that this creator has allowed us to become communicative. What do you think?

The season of controversy in the southern U.S. - its thunderstorms and mystery and much of what makes both interesting, also makes them dangerous. "In the USA civilian sector, lightning causes losses of $4-$5 billion per year (NLSI, 1999). In the government sector, the military (DDESB - Department of Defense Explosive Safety Board) has reported 88 identifiable lightning induced munitions explosions with costs and deaths not calculated. DDESB was formed as a result of the July 1926 Picatinny Arsenal incident, which killed 14 people and cost $70 million. It is impossible to catch up - we can closely associate to catching up, but real catching up cannot be accomplished. This is nice to know when it comes to the real world where we are often behind. The real trying part of this is that time passes, and we don't catch up with moments that are passed- and, we can't get ahead of it either- so, that means it cannot be done, right?

This show gave us insight sometimes, and sometimes, just plain old good fashioned humor. It added a personalized vision at times to the immense level that the Federal Government of the United States has at it's head. The President and the people around the President, as one branch of three was displayed as human. The show had ups and downs - such as when they left the Governor of California elected off their staff and did nothing with that story line portion; but, even with ups and downs as all drama has, this has been a show that I truly enjoyed and I shall hate to see it go...but that's how changes happen, right?

Now the fun starts: what will the replacement be...hmm, let's see...how about a show about a motor car company who realizes they have missed the boat (no pun intended) and because of this horrible miscue the execustives (numerous multi level 8 figure income types) are going to each contribute 200K to the 35,000 workers who they shafted as an offering of contrition? Could be done...won't be done...and ...35,000 folks is a bunch of people to have pissed off at one time...were it me and were I one of those chieftans...don't know...I think I'd find cover somewhere...oh heck...ain' I stupid...like they'd stay in the U.S. ...when they can go to the Bahamas...geez...my bad....

Nope...no whining here...Pittsburgh showed Denver that the one touchdown favorite of playing at Invesco field, didn't mean squat. Denver for some reason went flat, could it be that Pittsburgh let the air out of their tires? Now of course it becomes a must root for Pittsburgh...the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Best to them and who knows, maybe next year Denver will achieve what they are capable of.

and it helps to be right - so here goes - Denver will win at Invesco - but it could be close - depends upon the defenses. Plummer can be a factor, when he's hot he's hot, and this season people can say what they want but Plummer has done the job in a spectacular way! Since I'm a die hard Denver fan it really isn't a big deal to me who wins, but, it seems to me that Carolina beats people up - yeah I realize what a football cliche that is, but they seem very strong against some opponents and it will be fun to see how they handle Seattle. The factor that nobody really takes into account is the home team advantage, it's been said that this can be worth a touchdown, and let's how much the point difference is in the win for Carolina. Let me know what you think...would love to hear your sides...

Makes Perfect Sense...darnit....

Motivation is the key - that can be positive or negative. A couple that we know motivated their daughter by scaring her, constantly telling her what she had to lose if her grades fell - they never did. She didn't seem particularly unhappy, she went out, is now in college, holds a job and does well. Darnit- because, the motivation employed was negative, and, don't know about you but I love a world where things are rosey, people are nice, and they do stuff becuase it needs doing- then there is the truth- sometimes that doesn't work. What is needed is motivation to help people achieve and become more, that motivation can be and often is, negative. That motivation can also be positive, my question is, can one be substituted for the other successfully?

Frankl in "Man's Search for Meaning" (Touchstone Press, ISBN 0-671-24422-1, 1984) points out the level of detachment that is possible in people, and that the more extreme the circumstance, the more the detachment becomes a part of their behavior. Is this what we in America are seeing take place right in front of our eyes, only we don't see it, because we are detached? What do you think?

Who can tell the whimsical ways of government these days, I certainly can't, and it's at the behest, of such that research can be funded. Those aren't the only funds, but if the research isn't ground breaking and money making; though it have merit, it still may not see the light of investment angels money, hence, the behest of government grants looms large. Had to let this one go - it's the eleventh hour and my puny brain has run dry of creative endeavor- this is a tough one, it was within our grasp- but, there will be a tomorrow, this isn't the only fight we're gonna fight, and, 800 G's is a lot of smackers to walk away from, but it's better sometimes to walk away, rather than run from an impending disaster. So it's time to begin the search again for bucks. Saw an interesting book for writers, and many people who blog are also writers- check it out at:

True - it isn't free, but it is worth it - has tons of great ideas, and tons of terrific research and references. If a couple hundred bucks a week for three to six hours work would interest you, it's probably worth your checking it out. That's not bad money. {click on image}

Programming - and then there is...PRO-gramming

What we have in our lives are people, and books, all else, is entertainment of some sort. The people who bring about some difference in our existence, we remember them, usually for what they got us to see- the books we read, in some fashion go into those same lines, if I feel from reading it, likely it will stick with me. Same with programming - the strongest lessons tend to stick with me - what about you? What's your favorite language to program in? I have two - they conflict somewhat - I use a little C++ and some JAVA, have knowledge in others, as my favorite thing to get into is what a language will do - and there are many new ones coming out, RUBY as an example, and there are advances in the existing languages, AJAX, for example. In my feeble brain it occurs to me that there are people who do code, and then are people who take the art of their lives and put that into their programs. One such person is a great man I know - check out his web site at: http://www.cretesoft.com great folks at this place...loads of knowledge...but I find programmers are generally really bright types ...very creative types, what about you, do you find them to be such? Someone pointed out that time is relative - that as a person gains in age, the experience of time for them is modified as a perception. I've often heard folks who had reached 40 or more years of age say that time was going bye faster, but until I reached it, the perception escaped me. The perception no longer escapes me- it is a reality- and the pure joy of what a young person can accomplish, the energy, the brilliance, the dynamic that they can do, and yet in so many sad cases, are choosing not to- has become what drives me forward with so many seemingly crazy schemes.
Bruce Schechter in "My brain is open" takes the time to share math in such a meaningful way, from such a fabolous leader, Paul Erdos; yet, unless you study the subject, Paul's name is obscure. Test this out, mention his name to the next ten folks you meet, just get bold and ask them, "hey, what do you think about Paul Erdos?" You will get a, "if I knew who he was I might know what to think about him, but - since you asked, who is he?" Or something similar...now the hard part...let me know how that goes...let's see if I'm on the mark, or, missin' it...betcha I ain' missin' it much?

Stranger days still

It's beyond odd that with all this communication ability that we have, we also have a social setting where folks are separated. Being separate and apart gives people tremendous power over their internal enviornment, but the increase over internal locus decreases their social control. This may be a trend, and it might indicate that a paradigm shift is occuring at the societal level, on a much larger social scale than continental. Those who would like to pursue it in more depth will likely find some fun references at this site:

Folks - we're movin' into a realm where nothin' much makes sense - the realm of funding and the government. But that's the fun stuff...let's just jump into some of the stuff that is ...slightly serious...

1) Shame on me - the blog was sittin' with no movement while I backgrounded stuff...that's crazy behavior on my part, but it wasn't disrespect to the science of this communicative tool- it was ignorance of the power contained herein.

2) After taking in some of Bizstone's "Blogging" and some of Ray Kurzweil's "SIngularity" - my eyes and heart for this type of moving communication to the masses have been blown wide open. So thank you for taking your time to read this..please do communicate back.
